Easy Brown Rice Recipe
Here's our favorite recipe for healthy, delicious, and nicely textured brown rice.

How to Cook Brown Rice

Why Brown Rice?
Brown rice is important to detox diets because it's more easily digested than other grains. High in fiber, it's a natural food to include in a healthy colon body cleanse.

Raw Brown Rice Colon Cleansing Detox Diet
This colon cleansing diet is a safe and effective way to achieve deep intestinal cleansing and overall internal cleanse.

Why Brown Rice?

Rice is very important to detox diets because it's much more easily digested than other grains.  Also, many people are allergic to wheat and don't know it. Brown rice is rich in soluble fiber, which is important because it slows down the passage of food in the small intestine. This allows nutrients to be absorbed more efficiently. In addition it increases the production of microbes to neutralize chemicals from waste. Lastly, it helps to maintain a healthy pH level in the intestine. Fiber is a major ingredient in the various colon cleansers on the market. All herbal colon cleansers rely on fiber to stimulate and cleanse the colon.

The benefits of having fiber as part of your diet are:

  • natural colon cleansing
  • intestinal cleansing and overall internal cleansing
  • reduces constipation
  • prevents toxin build up because of slow waste elimination
  • improves energy because of increased nutrient absorption

Colon Cleansing with Brown Rice

Fiber is the best colon cleansing therapy to a healthy colon. A diet rich in fiber coupled with six to eight glasses of water a day is the best natural colon cleansing regimen. See the Raw Brown Rice Colon Cleansing Detox Diet below for a safe but rapid detox. It is not a diet fast, but a nourishing, fiber rich approach to a healthy colon body cleanse.

Raw Brown Rice Colon Cleansing Detox Diet

This is an excellent colon cleansing diet. All of the foods in this diet are nourishing and cleansing. Your body will receive all the nutrition it needs while your body is deeply cleansed. Eat when you feel hungry, and eat until you feel full, but not too full. If you can, eat 6 small meals a day rather than 3 large meals.

DonÕt drink liquids with your meal so that your digestive juices will not be diluted. It's best to drink 15 minutes before or after eating. Don't eat fruit with any other foods. You can mix the brown rice and vegetables, but try eating them separately for an ultimate food combining effect. Your digestive system will break down the similar foods more effectively than a broad combination of food types.

Follow this diet for 7 days, then gently introduce other foods.

  • Organic brown rice
  • Organic (preferably) vegetables, eaten raw, steamed or baked. No canned or frozen vegetables.
  • Fruits 4 x a day, eaten raw and by itself (1/2 hour before a meal or 2 hours after). No canned or frozen fruits. Soak dried fruits for 6 or more hours before eating.
  • Accepted condiments: olive oil, flax seed oil, dulse powder, Braggs Amino Acids, miso, lemon, herbs, and spices that do not contain MSG or sugar.
  • Beverages: Filtered, distilled or spring water. Herbal teas unsweetened. Freshly juiced vegetable and fruit juices diluted 50% with water. Juices from concentrate or jars must contain no sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

How to Cook Perfect Brown Rice

brown rice colon cleanseBrown rice comes in many varieties from long grain to short grain. Wash medium grain rice under the cold water tap. This will stop the rice from sticking.

Brown Rice Ingredients

2-1/3 cups of rice to 4 cups of water

OR

3 -1/2 cups of rice to 6 cups of water

Basmati rice or Texmati Rice (Which is basmati rice grown in the state of Texas in the USA as opposed to India) should be soaked in cool water before cooking it. In the beginning the water will have a light, milky look to it. Keep rinsing the rice until the water is clear. Then you are ready for the next steps:

The magical key to turning your next meal of brown rice into a delectable and pleasing dining experience is the sauteéing of the rice in your favorite oil. Some prefer olive oil, other excellent oils which tolerate a high temperature without burning includes grapeseed oil and coconut oil.

Brown rice, especially if you are purchasing it in bulk, requires being thoroughly rinsed before it is prepared. DonÕt forget to rinse your rice at least 3 times and then completely drain it.

Brown rice comes in many varieties from long grain to short grain. Wash medium grain rice under the cold water tap. This will stop the rice from sticking.

Basmati rice or Texmati Rice (which is basmati rice grown in the state of Texas in the USA as opposed to India) should be soaked in cool water before cooking it. In the beginning the water will have a light, milky look to it. Keep rinsing the rice until the water is clear. Then, no matter what kind of rice you have, you are ready for the next steps:

Now in a separate sauce pan start your water boiling. The relationship of rice to water is roughly but not exactly 2 parts rice to 2 parts water. To get the perfect hydration of the rice with a really excellent consistency, the relationship should be 2.3 cups of rice to 4 cups of water. For a larger portion try 3.5 cups of rice and 6 cups of water.

While that water is coming to a boil, take a saucepan preferably with thick bottom for good heat distribution and one that also has a tight-fitting lid and take 2 tablespoons of your favorite oil to begin sautéing the rice. Remember, if you did not drain the rice thoroughly, the trapped water will pop in the pan as you sauté the rice as oil and water do not mix. The hot oil could burn or harm you so make sure the rice has no excess water.

You are going to want to heat the oil and rice to a substantially high temperature. DonÕt forget to a stir the rice continually so that the rise does not burn. You will know you are doing a great job when you start to smell a nutty aroma being emitted from your sauce pan.

We now come to another crucial step. After the water in your separate pot has come to a rolling boil, pour it immediately over the sauteéd rice in the first sauce pan. You may have heard all kinds of stories about how a Òwatched pot never boilsÓ but in the case cooking brown rice it really is essential to not stir the rice. Instead under full heat let the boiling water from the second pan come back up to a rolling boil, place your tight-fitting lid firmly on top, turn your range to the lowest setting and let the whole thing cook for a full 45 minutes.

After 45 minutes you may be tempted to serve this yummy whole-grain nutritious gem, but be patient. After 45 minutes let the rice remain in the pot with the lid still firmly in place for at least 20 minutes.

What does all this accomplish? First the sautéing seals in the flavor of the rice bringing out itÕs natural nutty taste. Second, the long, tightly closed slow boil for 45 minutes creates a simmering heat that with the bed of steam that is forming above the rice, allows the rice kernels to absorb the water in a thorough and efficient way. Allowing the rice to stay in the pot for close to a half hour allows the hot water to hydrate the rice further.

The outcome is a soft, juicy brown rice with a distinct nutty flavor that cannot be achieved without following all the aforementioned steps. Once you learn this technique you and your family will never be disappointed. Folks at your table will be clamoring for seconds of this incredibly nutritious whole grain product.
