I Hate Exercise

If you want to lose weight, you have to move.

You have to move every day, a little or a lot.

The more you move, the more you will grow your muscles.

The more muscles you have, the more calories you will burn all through the day and all through the night, even as you sleep.

Here’s a neat little trick for you who hate exercise:

I call it “Don’t Just Stand There!”

It’s very simple. It applies to sitting and laying on the couch as well as standing. It goes like this:

When you’re standing in a check out line or brushing ¬†your teeth or waiting for the subway, washing dishes, don’t just stand there. Move! When you’re in a public place, micro-move. Here are some ideas:

  • squeeze your butt
  • tighten and release your quads
  • pull in your belly and hold it tight as long as you can
  • lift one foot slightly while balancing on the other
  • stand on your tippy toes for as long as you can while squeezing your butt
  • squeeze every muscle in your body if you’re more advanced

Move your body all through the day with these micro-moves. Micro-move every day. The muscle-building and metabolism-raising benefits will add up. And best of all, daily micro-movement will entrain your mind and muscle to be a body in movement.

Be a Body in Movement!

In addition to micro-movements, you can incorporate movement into other daily routines. Here are some ideas:

  • when you’re brushing your teeth, do squats or hip circles
  • while you watch tv, do leg lifts or leg circles
  • while you walk in your house from one room to another, jog or jump
  • when you’re in the shower, squeeze and release your butt and thighs
  • while you’re driving, squeeze and release your butt and thighs and belly.
